Giving Meter

A what?

A Giving Meter...a new program launched by the Downtown Springfield Community Improvement District, in conjunction with the City of Springfield, to help the homeless in our community.  The meters provide a place for citizens to donate money to help existing social service organizations.

Local artists have painted, sculpted, bedazzled and morphed parking meters into works of art.  The meters will be on display the first weekend in May at Arts Fiesta and ArtsFest on Walnut Street.  After the festivals, the meters will be installed in downtown Springfield and on Commercial Street.

Arts Fiesta and ArtsFest patrons will vote for three cash prizes.  Hint, hint.

Here's mine from start to finish.  Given that Springfield lies somewhat near to the prairie and that wheat is so essential to food, I decided to paint a wheatfield.

New Tutus

Thank you Miss Charlotte for understanding little girls.  You know how to make them smile.

Munich Market

I seem to be working on a food-related theme lately.  Perhaps, I'll aim for a food related solo show.  What's better than food anyway?

What a Girl!

That's our ever-confident, oh, so joyful June Elizabeth flying a kite last Saturday.  Styling in her boots, leggings, dress and joyful smile (trust me, it's there).

She's a dandy.

The Trees I Hate to Love

I'm not ready to "love to hate" them.

They are so lovely.  They are so ubiquitous here in the Ozarks.  They are so short-lived.

But they are so stinky.  And pollen-laden.  And lovely.

Know whadda I mean?

My Beauties

Giverny Poppies

Lately, I've been painting subject matter that's all over the place:  cows, berries, pigs, sheep.  This one resulted from playing around with runny paint and drip bottles.  I like how the poppies pop.

Enough said.

Bad Photo

This small painting got a new home over the weekend.  The location was somewhere around Ullapool, Scotland.  It was a thrilling hiking day and the scenery was amazing.

Just before I was ready to turn it over to its new owner, I realized that I didn't have a photo of it, so I took one in the parking lot.  You can see my shadow in the glare.

Note to self:  take pictures upon completion of painting.

Desk Redux

Imagine Ken's childhood desk.

Imagine Penny getting ahold of it with some turquoise paint.

Imagine Penny deciding to be a bit more restrained in her re-painting of said desk.
