FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD COMMUNITY
IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT

GIVING METERS INSTALLED

(SPRINGFIELD, MO—JUNE 6, 2013) After both an exciting

and successful debut at Artsfest on Historic Walnut Street,
the Giving Meters, an initiative sponsored by the Downtown
Springfield Community Improvement District, Urban Districts
Alliance, and the City of Springfield, are finding
their permanent homes along the sidewalks of downtown.

The giving meters are refitted parking meters with the
purpose of providing an outlet for people to give
their spare change, rather than giving it directly to panhandlers.
Money raised will be distributed by the Community Foundation
of the Ozarks to local organizations with initiatives to provide
assistance to those in need.

The meters were painted and in some cases, sculpted by local
artists, including art students at Drury University and Missouri
State University to fit with the eclectic downtown environment.

A total of 14 meters were decorated. Five have currently been
installed at the following locations:

Park Central East                 Scott Sauer, Artist
South & Walnut                   Drury University Photography Department
Square & PC South              Nicholas Tarr, Artist
Jefferson & Walnut             David Cogorno- Drury University, Artist
UDA & McDaniel                 Penny Gordon-Chumbley, Artist

Installation of the meters is headed up by Jonathan Gano with

Springfield Public Works.  The remaining nine meters will be placed

at other  locations within the downtown CID area.
