Children and Television

When Ken and I were raising our daughter Clare, TV time meant family time on Saturday evenings when we would watch movies together.  (Remember VCRs?).  Access to the television was extremely limited.

As expected, things have relaxed now that we're grandparents.

"Dora" is a heroine to June and Christa.  "Diego" is a pal.  In fact, most of the time, we don't see June and Christa or spend time with them; we hang out with "Dora" and "Diego" (or Ego as Christa calls herself), the alter-egos of June and Christa.  If we call them by the wrong name, we are quickly corrected.  As role-models go, Dora and Diego are just fine.  They are brave and adventurous and good problem-solvers, traits that we hope our grandgirls will acquire.

Plus, watching "Dora" or "Diego" means that sometimes, the grandgirls are still.  And quiet.  And snuggly.

And it even keeps Ken entertained.
